Your Club Your Committee

All members of the RNRMCA committee are dedicated cyclists just like you. They are all volunteers. They give up their time and effort in support of working to provide the best facilities for members of the RNRMCA to enable them to enjoy their sport. If you want to discuss any aspect of your membership then simply select the relevant committee member. However, general questions can often be answered by logging on to the Message Board so why not log on now and get involved?

Club President

Captain M A Beverstock BSc(Eng) CEng FIET Royal Navy

An active cyclist Capt Mark Beverstock has been involved in the co-ordination of the RNRMCA for a number of years. Mark enjoys all forms of cycling and has already represented the association in the Inter Service Time Trial Championships for 2008. Mark also enjoys long distance riding and has completed several Sportive events including the Etape Du Tour.

Captain Beverstock is currently serving as the Commanding Officer HMS NEPTUNE

Club Chairman

Major A Plewes Royal Marines

Andy Plewes has also been on the board of the RNRMCA for several seasons. A prolific off-roader Andy regularly dominates the cross country series at Inter Service events. 2008 looks set to be one of his best seasons ever winning the opening rounds of the IS Cross Country Series and also riding superbly to gain second place overall at the Inter Service 10 Mile Time Trial championships marks him down as a force to be reckoned with this season.

Maj Plewes is currently working at Portsmouth Naval Base and can be contacted on 9380 27131or e mail him via this link

General Secretary

Commander JH Twine

The job title belies the true depth of John's involvement in the club. As well as looking after the day to day administration including affiliations and race licenses John is heavily involved in working groups with the other services investigating ways of further promoting cycling at all levels throughout the Armed Forces. John is a strong rider who is always up for a challenge be it time trialling, sportive riding or road racing. John also is a highly talented rower and has gained much success in past years in the concept II indoor rowing championships.

Cdr Twine is currently working as SO1 Trg Dev for the Joint Medical Command and can be contacted on 9380 65756 or e mail him via this link

Treasurer

Lieutenant S Kelly (RN)

A relative newcomer to Time Trialling Steve is a hot favorite in the South West District where he has already enjoyed some early season success. This is down to old fashioned hard work and dedication. Steve represents the club at many events including Time Trials, Road Races and even longer distance rides.

As club treasurer Steve is responsible for all things financial including planning for future events as the committee develops the financial strategy of the club.

Lt Kelly is currently employed as the PTRO at HMS Collingwood and can be contacted on 93825 2694 or e mail him via this link

Equipment Manager

Petty Officer (Diver) K Satchwell

Another relative newcomer Satch began racing in 2007. Following the training camp of the same year he stepped up to take on a committee role and is now a regular attendee at the majority of club events. Preferring the longer distance time trial Satch is focussing his season on specific events, some of which would make the average cyclist cringe with pain.....Highly motivated and determined to succeed here is another rider to watch out for in 2008.

As equipment Manager Satch co-ordinates orders for kit and dispatches them to members. This time consuming activity is often misunderstood so if you think you may need some new kit get your order in now to give the team a chance to satisfy your order in a timely manner.

PO(D) Satchwell is currently serving with the Southern Diving Group and can be contacted on 9375 67578 or e mail him via this link

Mountain Bike Secretary

Lt Cdr W Milne

Seeing an opening Willie stepped up to the Committee post in the spring of 2007. He is now a regular at the Inter Service MTB events. With a preference for Enduro events he has spent many a happy hour in the saddle for RNRMCA. His love of off-roading is complemented with an affinity for sportive rides, the challenging nature of which is right up his street.

As Mountain Bike Sec Willie really has his work cut out. The membership database shows a third of members having expressed a preference to ride off-road and yet organised events are very poorly attended. Willie continues to work with other members of the committee in an attempt to redress this balance but the message is if you ride off road then get in touch with Willie soonest to see how you could represent the RNRMCA at an event near you this summer.

Lt Cdr Milne is currently in post at Sub IPT at  Abbey Wood and can be contacted on 9352 33293 or e mail him via this link

Road Based Events Secretary

CPO PTI S Childs

An accomplished athlete Sean continues to win regularly at just about any distance going on a Time Trial Bike. 2008 has also seen him branch out into road racing but with specific targets now set for the season we can expect to see some more amazing performances from the team captain. Leading the team to great success in 2007 may have been enough for many people however, Sean's dogged determination continues as he cajoles and motivates all riders no matter what standard they are at.

Sean's areas of responsibility are too diverse to list here. However, rest assured if your query is related to riding road/TT bikes then Sean will more than likely be able to answer your needs.

CPOPTI Childs is currently working as the  CPOPTI at HMS Raleigh Gymnasium. He can be contacted on 9375 41670 or e mail him via this link

Membership Secretary

CPO CIS T Dawson

Les is a Northern chap who loves cycling. He first joined the club with a group of shipmates as he led a team on a charity based ride throughout the UK. Living in Blackpool and based in Faslane Les tries to get to as many races as possible. His penchant is for road racing and he also possesses a pretty mean turn of speed for a time trial.

With his new job on the base Les is keen to raise the profile of RNRMCA North of the border so will be round and about soon to get some support.

CPO Dawson is currently employed at Commcen Faslane and can be contacted on 93255 6400 or e mail him via this link

Web Master

WO1 A Hunstone

Andy got involved in cycling when he couldn't play rugby anymore. Having enjoyed the benefits of club membership he decided it was time to give something back and first joined the committee in the role of Training Camp co-ordinator. He has subsequently been involved in the planning and execution of the last 3 seasons training camps and picked up responsibility for the membership database and the website on the way. Andy will have a go at pretty much anything to do with a bike. He rides TT's, Sportives and even the MTB champs at HMS Raleigh. However, it is long rides in the sun with his family that he really enjoys and he longs for the decent weather.

Andy is extremely keen and focussed on the clubs objectives particularly the encouragement of cycling and is constantly exploring more ways of bringing groups of riders together.

WO1 Hunstone is currently employed at Abbey Wood and can be contacted on 9352 39325 or e mail him via this link

Have you got what it takes to join the committee?

With over 300 members sharing the load of running the Association has never been harder. We are always on the look out for volunteers to assist. We have an association member organising the teams entry into the Duo Normand this year for example and are always on the look out for any willing volunteers. If you think you can help and you are prepared to see the project through to fruition then we want to hear from you now.
