Come one come all test your speed at the 50 mile Time Trial

Time trial is one of the simplest forms of racing on bikes.  The premise is simple. A course is chosen and measured. This will usually be a straight out and back course and will have no traffic lights or right turns to negotiate. All junctions will be marshalled and timekeepers are employed to start and finish each rider individually.

Riders are given a race number and a corresponding start time. Set off with a minutes separation riders must get to the start in time for their departure. At the start line they will be informed of the time remaining and offerred support from a "pusher off" enabling them to clip into their pedals (if required). The countdown continues 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and you're off.........

At the end of the distance riders will see the finish line usually marked with a chequered board and as they pass should clearly shout their race number (to aid the timekeeper). All that remains is for the officials to collate the results and for the rider to make their way back to the HQ for a cup of tea and a general discussion about how it went on the day.

The only change to the above is the bit in the middle. The distance. Time trials range from 10 miles to 24 hours with lots of distance in between. The main point is on the day the whole field are competing at the same distance with generally the same conditions (weather changes can impact).

The RNRMCA Road Based Championships includes time trials at 10, 25, 50, 100 miles and a hill climb event. the aim being to give all riders a challenge. So whether you are a sprint star or a long distance specialist or even an all rounder there will be something for you.

Round 5 50 Mile Time Trial Sunday 13 June 2010 0700 S100/50

50 miles in a time trial is more of a test of pacing and control. It's a great distance to have a go if you've never ridden one before. But don't take it too lightly it's a couple of hours hard graft.
