INTER-SERVICE 10 MILE TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010
The Army hosted the 2010 Inter-Service 10 & 25 Mile Time Trial Championship on Sat 8 May and Sun 9 May respectively. This year’s event was held in Hampshire on the A3, 25 riders from the RNRMCA travelled from all over the country to represent the Senior Service, this in itself is fantastic achievement and demonstrates the commitment and team spirit that the Association is currently enjoying. The Army and RAF were in buoyant mood prior to the event and were determined to wrestle the 10 mile crown from the RNRMCA who had been champions for the last 5 years. The weather conditions were far from ideal the frequent heavy rains and the long gradual climbs on the course ensured it was again a ‘hard day at the office’ for all the riders. In an individual time trial the riders start at one minute intervals and they ride as hard as they can in an attempt to cover the 10 miles in the quickest time. It’s man and machine against the clock it what is often referred to as the ‘race of truth’.
As the athletes returned from their rides the excitement in the race HQ built as the times were entered on the master score board for all to see. It soon became apparent that the 10 Mile Time Trial crown would be in safe hands for another year with the RNRMCA victorious again. There were ‘pats on the back’ and congratulations all round as the RNRMCA were announced winners of the Inter-Service 10 Mile Time Trail Championship for the sixth year in succession. Worthy of a special mention is SA Samantha Kelly who in only her third Time Trial fought of stiff opposition from the Army to win the female competition.

INTER-SERVICE 25 MILE TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010
After a short over night break the riders assembled again at the race HQ in Greatham Village Hall, a stones throw from the A3 shortly before 0700. The weather was dryer but the cyclist worst enemy, the wind, had picked up over night, this of course would not impede the determination of the RNRMCA riders who were in confident mood and keen to build on the success of the previous day and capture the 25 Mile Time Trial title. The riders started at one minute intervals again and with every muscle and sinew stretched to breaking point the sheer effort on all the faces was plain to see. Each members of the squad played their part and this ensured the RNRMCA retained the 10 & 25 Mile titles. The individual results were the same as in the 10 Mile TT and the team event, with the fastest 3 riders from each Service to count, went down to the wire with only 20 seconds splitting first and second places. However, the RNRMCA retained their title over the RAFCC in the closet run team competition for many years. WO1 Drew won the veterans prize for the fastest over 40. The 2010 Inter-Service competition was again an outstanding success for the RNRMCA, the Association continues to go from strength to strength and this years success confirms the club as the Inter-Service champions for the sixth successive year.
